Alice the Great Horned Owl is a permanently injured owl who works at the Houston Nature Center in Houston, MN and lives with her handler, Karla Bloem. Rusty and Iris are Great Horned Owls that are both blind in their right eyes and cannot live in the wild. Rusty and Iris are breeding in captivity as part of Karla's vocal study on Great Horned Owls. All together they have led to the creation of an International Owl Center in Houston, MN and an International Festival of Owls.

Banding (For Real!)
Today the owlets got banded for real. Here's a family photo, from oldest on the left to youngest on the right. They are WAY bigger than the last time we handled them...almost full grown. People holding owls left to right: Dave Noble (master falconer from WI), Hein Bloem, and me (Karla Bloem). Watch for a video of the banding tomorrow!

What a great photo! The male in the middle does seem to have different markings and whiter head than the females. Looking forward to watching how they develop over the next 9-10 months.
